Abstract:
Nowadays, the Combined Charging System (CCS) extensively utilized in electric vehicle charging infrastructure transmits data between the car and the charging station via the power line. However, the communication mechanism facilitated by power lines introduces risks to security due to cross-talk among the lines. This study proposes an alternate data transfer protocol that addresses the identified security and application problems. The proposed approach utilizes a communication method called Visible Light Communication (VLC), which mitigates interference, reduces line crosstalk, and improves security. This study, in contrast to previous studies in the literature, investigates the technological requirements for implementing VLC-based data transfer as opposed to conventional power line communication in CCS systems, analyzes potential application scenario, and aims for guidance on future research work.
Bio:
Korcan Özel graduated from Sırrı Yırcalı Anadolu Lisesi. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Ankara, Turkey. He continued with her M.Sc. studies in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a thesis under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Çağatay Edemen at Özyeğin University. His research focuses on the design of a new communication protocol for electric vehicle charging. He also published a conference paper titled “Elektrikli Araç Şarj Ünitelerinde Güvenli Veri İletişimi: Görünür Işık Haberleşmesi Protokolü” at the 2025 33rd Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), held in İstanbul, Turkey.
